Fire-Alert is a mobile fire safety inspection and prevention company founded in Ottawa 40 years ago by Yvan Houle and now co-owned by his son, Sylvain Houle, and his wife, Vanessa.
The company has grown to include corporate locations in Ottawa and 22 franchise locations across Canada, with continued expansion planned in Canada and the United States.
Fire-Alert provides comprehensive inspection, installation, repair, and maintenance services for fire extinguishers, fire hoses, fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency lights, and other fire safety equipment. Approximately 90% of its business comes from industrial and commercial clients, including national accounts, creating a steady demand driven by legal fire code requirements. The franchise model offers a fully mobile, low-overhead business with an investment ranging from $110,000 to $150,000, depending on the territory and equipment needs. Franchisees receive two to three weeks of specialized training at Fire-Alert’s Ottawa facility, along with ongoing operational support and training in fire code compliance. No previous fire protection experience is required, but franchisees should be mechanically inclined, motivated, personable, team-oriented, and comfortable working with the public. Fire-Alert is currently focused on growing its network of owner-operators while building on its strong industry reputation, established customer base, and long-term growth potential.
